Posted - 10/07/2003 : 23:24:06 Just felt like saying w00t! I believe both Davis and Bustamante have Arnolds size 15 footprint on the back of their pants.
Unfortunately, my nice pretty racial privacy initiative appears to be failing. I'm still happy though. I get to have somebody with similar views as my new Governor.
Any other Californians out there joyous or pissed?
I betcha Jesters happy.

Posted - 10/10/2003 : 18:03:24 I love san diego. Very pretty town, clean. I was there for almost a year, 3+ months of bootcamp (doesnt really count because i only left the base once to go to Camp Pendelton)and then 4 months of schooling at CamPen, then numerous ship ops. Wife and i havent been back there but once to go to sea world.

Posted - 10/09/2003 : 14:22:25 quote: A racial slur!!! What are you kinding me. It was just something that stuck me as funny. Like when people pronunce the S in Illinois.
I wasn't implying that you are a racist in any way. We're on an online gaming web forum. It doesn't exactly matter what people say here and I make it a point to not take anything very seriously while visiting here.
. . .However. . .
When a public official makes that sort of comment about another (soon to be) public official, it goes too far. There are certain things some people can't joke about. That's what I was pointing out in my post.
And to show that it is a racial slur, let's modify the situation a bit. An accent is part of someones ethnic background. There are other things that are also part of someones ethnic background:
"The governor should at least be the same color as the people he is representing."
or how about:
"We can't have a n***** in office. This is a white state."
A persons ethnic background (along with their accent, skin color, etc.) has absolutely no reflection upon their ability to be a good governor. That's why Davis' comment was a low blow.
I'm more worried about his ability to be a good governor since he has no political background.
btw, I can't stand the way New Yorkers pronounce the name of the state of Oregon. The rest of the world pronounces it organ and the New Yorkers call it oreh gawn
EDIT: Jester, from your post, I'm guessing you are stationed here, but do not live here. Where are you stationed (where do you live)?
EDIT2: oops. I remember thinking I should go back and edit that word a couple sentences after I wrote it. I just forgot by the time I reached the end of my post.

Posted - 10/09/2003 : 11:11:32 btw I speak not only english but fluent greek and some spanish and go out of my way to try to pronounce words correctly. It's a fact that after the age of 25-30 it is almost imposible to learn a language without having an accent due to the way the linguistic area of your brain is wired.
I had no idea that davis had said that and got in troble for it.

I think it's pretty much pronounced the same way we all say it if you have a spanish accent --at least most of the spanish speaking people I know pronounce it the same way.

Posted - 10/08/2003 : 20:25:12 quote: Don't realy care much about politics in your state but the gov should at least pronounce the name of the state he's from correctly.
I consider that comment a racial slur. Most of the rest of the state also does --which is part of the reason Gray Davis was recalled by a pretty large percentage. He said the same thing and then got attacked for saying it.

Posted - 10/08/2003 : 14:55:49 Yes, i am VERY happy. Although i live here i am not a resident per se. Im just happy another democrat lost. Hell, i dont live in Alaska but a republican governor is better than a democrat one.
Today California, tomorrow the WORLD!!!! Semper Ah-nold! Semper Bush!
