Posted - 12/10/2003 : 22:03:34 Hey everyone out in Tribes land, I was wondering if anyone had any tips on not sucking more than Monica Lewinsky... Havn't seen many lakrabbit servers with desirable settings. I'm tired of getting repeatedly owned by Aggie and Jester.

Posted - 12/12/2003 : 14:50:34 Ohhh good tip Impact I forgot to say that.
Yeah, if there's an enemy nearby, never stop moving until s/he is dead. This is especially true when shielding. I am constantly weaving in and around the enemy, using every bump and hill in the terrain to block shots while my shield recharges, then I pop out and run through the mob and loose a few shots.
A really good trick I've learned is to try and use the enemy as a shield. I've had times where I'm fighting six or seven guys and I win because I use the enemy scouts to block shots or obscure aim. Sometimes they even concussion each other, which is downright hilarious. It doesn't always work, but if you're fighting a heavy and a smaller armor, stick close to the heavy so s/he doesn't feel tempted to use mortars, and then if TD is off, sometimes the heavy will simply absorb discs and plas shots.
Another thing that I find works well is to stand next to enemy inventories or MPB's so that shots that miss you hit the vehicle or inventory station.

Posted - 12/12/2003 : 08:44:25 Whatever style you choose, keep a cool head and you will do fine.
The secret to my success: I always keep the enemy and myself guessing as to what I am going to do next. I randomly push buttons, fire in every direction and forget to turn on my shields. Also, try to at least, conc yourself at least 2X in a game.

Posted - 12/12/2003 : 08:32:14 I really don't know what too say. Each player here gave you some good tips to improve yourself. Plus I really haven't seen you play so the best advice I could give is, move your A$$! Notice that most of the top players in CPA never stay still, become a hard target. Practice the basic of moving around more and more. For starters... fire up the old solo and lan game, practice with the drones, run circles around them with out using the shield pack. Make sure the difficulty level is set to max. Find some type of technique or style that you're comfortable with, then keep improving it.
Now working on accuracy in shooting, for some reason, arena and dueling helps out. I don't recommend you going there until you know the basis of moving. Its a start. But above all, try to have fun.

Posted - 12/11/2003 : 22:12:22 Lets be realistic here, i'm a very good individual player, I don't mean that I don't play as a team, I mean that I can hold my own pretty well when needed too. Its all about tactic, and i'm an all around player.
I'm a good sniper, you know what makes you good? Its tools and practice. The greatest tool I ever got my hands on was an FOV script that changed my mouse sensitivity and FOV when Zooming. Its made my Sniper Aim ridiculously accurate, easier to follow and lead without overleading by too much sensitivity or to much screen to get lost in. Acquire a good script like that... grab a valley (not a hill, shooting down is the worse, shooting up is best) and just chill for a week working on sniping.
It takes tactic to do alot.
I can easily take down a shielded heavy with energy-packed scout, how? Easy, carry a SL and a Conc grenade and he's done. Don't even sit there and go rounds of ammo with him, its pointless. 90% of the time you conc someone's weapon and pack, they turn around to retrieve it.. and then for that next 10 secs, you got them at your mercy, take advantage.
Your cloaking and you get attacked. Don't try to run, your going to tell him where your going with jet trail and footstep dust, your going to get killed. Stay and fight.. if you lose its better than running and losing, hell if you save that energy in the pack for evading his attacks, you have a good chance than trying to stay cloaked while flying away.
Become a master of conc grenades. I don't care what anyone says, conc grenade is THE most powerful weapon. 5 grenades can strip any person of every weapon and pack, i've had scouts down to no weapons and no packs and just sit there and jet away.. its too easy. Learn how to place a conc, how to lead with them.. how to get them away from you and to your enemy, they help ALOT.

Posted - 12/11/2003 : 18:58:35 My one gripe with arena in terms of skill building is that if you suck and you die quick, you just end up sitting around a lot. You don't get a whole lot of practice that way.
But I think that saying it sucks as a gametype, competition, and proving grounds is bordering on unadulterated ignorance.

Posted - 12/11/2003 : 17:35:35 Sorry na but I don't play arena to say I'm l33t, I play because I enjoy it. I agree, most of the arena players are a-holes, but other than that, it is pretty fun. That's how I learned to fuze and snipe.
It can actually be more than just retards with guns running around, shooting peeps, and bragging about it. I played for Save the Kittens during the summer, and we had to stick together and strategize to win, because we actually played actual teams.
Everyone has their own opinion, so people hate it and love it, just like everything.

Posted - 12/11/2003 : 17:04:27 What is it about arena that makes everyone think that because you play arena you have skill?
Arena sucks as a gametype, a competition, a proving grounds, and a skill builder.
If you want to get good in light, go play LakRabbit or MinRabbit. The one I play on is called -=ALLGUNZBLAZIN=- and there are some great people there who are actually nice. They don't look down on you because you aren't a "l33t h4x0r 4r3n4 pl4y4" and you can't MA with disc at 100m (yet).
Trust me, Arena is not the answer.
If you want to learn how to snipe, find out about that AIroute thing that lets you set up the routes that the bots take. Have them following a path and just sit on a hill and practise your leading and general aim. Once you get good, you can go on a pub server with confidence and start working on MA snipes, as well as laser duelling.

Posted - 12/11/2003 : 15:41:29 The "A" in "CPA" rhymes with "say", Slayer. There is a SLDM I guess the server isn't up anymore. It was made by a little fishie, from the pond seige server. I guess SLDM server died but you can still download it and host it I am sure.

Arena or DuelMod if you trying to get skillz with MAs or Chain whoring. Or if it is SL you are after go to the SL DM server. Hang out in there for a bit maybe someone will show up or add to your favorites and go in when others are there. Shielding non-cpa style shields I would have to say Arena or Siege. Now if you want to get good with heavies that is easy play Siege. Now if you are trying to learn how to snipe that is a toughy. The sniping in Arena is really hard becuase those snipers are good plus people are sneaking up on you or spaming you with nades. CTF might not be as good becuase of not enough people but still the best place to start. Sniping is different for everyone some people never get the hang of it and some like zwei learn in 5 days and become almost as good as Tbok. But if you were talking about in CPA then I just have to say play more CPA.
Hehe, that last sentence rhymed.
Well, besides the obligatory, "use paragraphs so it is readable", I just want to say, there aren't so many people playing these days. Some gametypes have died off. How many base servers are still around? SL DM?
And oh yeah, rhyming CPA with CPA. Mwah (/me kisses fingers and flourishes), brilliance.

Posted - 12/11/2003 : 01:16:52 While my vacation from CPA I have been playing arena quite often. I can honestly say that I have become one of the best snipers out of the bunch i have seen. Also, you too will also get very accurate and skillfull with the disc and nade launcher...spend about a month on arena, and you'll improve undoubtedly.
