Welcome to our first installment of "Is it Constatutional".

What do you think boys and girls? Lets try and have a meaningful debate and not let this degrade into a craptastic partisan blame game.

Do not meddle in the affairs of pimps, for they are subtle and quick to anger.

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

For those of you who are going to start spouting the constitution... It says Congress, not State.

Personally I think it's a load of bull pucky. They are gonna have their hands full trying to enforce it I think. I also think that they ought to march on the capital and voice their... displeasure. A nice old fashioned sit in ought to work.

Well, there's one thing I agree with in there. Make a law that won't allow you to make signs with sticks that can be used as weapons. Not that I know of any specific incidents where someone made a sign with a 2x4 and subsequently used it to beat peoples faces in, but it seems like a very appropriate law. Protests sometimes get violent. If you make a law so that sign sticks would break if you whacked it on someones face, that just makes for a little bit more safety.

As for everything else, it's a nice big load of BS. We're given the right to assemble peacefully and that's the end of the story. As long as they're on public property and they aren't violent or doing stupid things such as blocking me from getting to work in the morning, they should be able to protest whatever they want whenever they want, planned or unplanned, and not have to worry about putting down a hefty deposit.

Then again, every single protester out there could very well be fined $1000 for littering as soon as they drop an object on the ground. That would solve the issue of the cost of cleanup really quickly.
