im getting bad juju.
blue screen of death just started.
i have already defragged.
fatal errors, dll problems, system is dangerously low on resources, all the good crap is showing it's face in 2003. im using windows 98, a pretty reliable OS as far as it's history w/ me is concerned.
suggestions? **prays for anything but format**

With Redhat and Suse, however, you aren't paying for the OS itself. Rather, you are paying for the documentation, online and phone support, and a few of the proprietary programs included in the OS. Technically, it is still supposed to be free.
On the other hand, the time it takes to learn Linux, coupled with the higher learning curve, deters from the value of the free Kernal download.
Personally, I keep two at the house: an XP machine (no blue-screen of death nor major crashes in a year and a few months..) and a linux machine (smaller but for non-game or word-processsing activities).
It is just a matter of preference. Good luck with your choice.

I have ME and it crashes ONLY when llama kazaa is running, cause kazaa is a cpu hog

So,.......... what are you going to do? buy or downloaded for free. Hell I got Mandrake 7.2 running on one of my old systems. really stabble, got to get use unix command line alot, sometime I get a little confuse with dos and unix but all is good.
Just try it, never could tell you might like it.

Um, ever hear of RedHat? Suse? etc... They all have commercial releases you can buy at the store... OR you can download them for free.

linux seems to be a real robust os with the capability to handle multiple programs with ease and grace. It also seems like you have to saw off your arm to get people to make programs for it. it's like having a really nice road, and no car. It's smooth and stable, perfect for ... walking on.

the problem with linux is.... it's free.
now, don't get me wrong here, I wish i used linux, all i hear is good things about the os itself, however... because it is free, there is little market in it. windows costs, (not that i have ever payed for it, nor has anyone I know payed for it, nor will they as long as I can help it) and it gets more use.
if...and this may be crazy talk...someone slapped a price tag on linux, and kept distributing it for free on the internet... it would get far more use, and thus, far more attention, no? im not saying buy it, im saying, ... americans are cattle. we will do whatever the herd says. and if the herd thinks this thing must be better because it costs more...then so be it, we shall graze there.
perfume. cheap perfume can smell good. expensive perfume smells like money. if you made a good smelling perfume, and made it free... it wouldn't leave the shelves. take that same perfume, and make is $80 an ounce, and it's now designer.
this is kinda rambling, and i forgot where i was going. so im gonna stop now

pfft, so what if you cant use it for work? who needs work? games, on the other hand, all need to be coded for linux...

you'll find that Linux is much more stable...
The only thing that has stopped me from a 100% switch is A. Work & B. not all games are available for Linux.

1. I will NEVER pay for an OS. NEVER. ever.
2. I fixed it. It was winamp freaking out on me...go figgure.
3. NEVER. If I have to get linux, and program it to look like windows and crash a lot, I will.

When I had to use ME ,Before I got my new computer, You had to restart the comp everytime you stopped playing T2 for 30hr because any other Program you opened would lock up

NO! ME is same crap different packaging than 98, get 2000 Pro or anything else built off the NT backbone.

Mallak, win 98 is NOT, repeat, is NOT a good OS.
Run friggin 95 instead. 98 doesn't present anything good other than a larger memory footprint. Spring 100 bucks and get windows ME or 2000pro.
