Sierra Cancels Tribes 2 "Fast Attack"
Posted: 08-03-02 11:08am Author: SuicideTaxi

Sierra reported to the "Tribes Council" (the group of community leaders currently attending the meeting at Sierra headquarters in Seattle) that Tribes 2 "Fast Attack", a title planned to be released some time next year as a follow-up to Tribes 2, has been officially cancelled by the company. Tribes 2 Brand Manager Alex "Marweas" Rodberg stated that the "Fast Attack" concept was "not the follow-up that Sierra wants to pursue for the Tribes franchise", but added "Although other Tribes titles are definitely planned."

Mr. Rodberg also stated that the upcoming "re-release" of Tribes 2 will include numerous new game types, maps, features, and technical updates, and will be available in stores for "something like 10 dollars." Mr. Rodberg stressed that although Tribes 2 will be "re-released", every feature available in the store-bought version will also be available to those who already own Tribes 2 by a free download through the Tribes 2 auto-update feature.

Although the announcement came as a surprise to many of the attendees of the Tribes Council, Mr. Rodberg reasoned that Sierra was not interested in dividing the current Tribes-playing community with yet another type of Tribes game, nor rehashing an already existing product (Tribes 2) with a spin on gameplay (Fast Attack).

The PS2 tribes looks win. Network adapeter for a ps2 is supposed to be about 40$ adn you dont have to pay per month to use it. Graphics look very good

Im glad they got rid of fast attack they were going to totally get rid of what makes tribes fun the massive maps and most of the veichles they need to fix the problems at hand first like my freakin browser bah!!! it never works anymore.... it used to work sometimes..

From what I've gathered, ps2 was releasing a network adapter and fast attack was supposed to follow that. Can you imagine all the new problems that tribes2 would inhereit? You'd have to be some kind of astro-wing-ding-ologist, just to set-up a server that would support all that stuff. I think the tribes council needs to focus more on pushing sierra to get the current problems resolved, before adding more problems.

i dont really mind, mostly because i like t2 anyway, and fast attack was going to be unscriptable anyway :o
