I was thinking of purchasing a new video card, but I am unsure of what to get. In my other computer I have a Geforce3 and I was overall happy with it. I know that Geforce 4 is out there, but I havent taken the time to research costs of such Video Cards....

What do you guys use, what would you suggest, and how much should one cost?

the newest one, and probably the best (sorry, Radeon-freaks) would have to be the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra, by nVidia. This is their top of the line and it costs about 750$ CDN, which is what... 600 US? 500? I dunno, in Canada, our money makes sense, eh?

Anyways, you should be able to pick up an extremely brawny GeForce4 Ti 4600 for much less, which will still be a great card and will deliver high-quality visuals on anything but the most graphics-intensive games/applications, and even then will perform reasonably well.

If you choose the darkside, you could go Radeon, which sux, but some people like it. I personally think you should get an nVidia Riva TNT2, which has an ultra-high gamma correction setting so you can see cloakers in t2 very very easily

<edit> Don't get the Riva 2, its like 4 years old and your geforce pwns it </edit>

I have a piece of crap vid card in my new comp, I just havent been able to purchase a new one (speeding ticket cost me 200 Us $$)....

The one I have right now, well yea, cloakers are pretty visible on certain maps, not all, but walls of bases and hills are multicolored....(I posted some pics way back in the day of them)...

Its time for me to get another...

I;m going to assume US dollars...

go to your local computer store and ask if they have any geforce 4 ti's in stock, I'm thinking that they might be in that general price range, and they perform well

I'd say to look for a geforce fx 5600 ultra 128MB for that price. Unless you are playing some of the newest games out there right now, I'd wait. Vid card prices are pretty high at the moment and there really aren't many games that can use the new expensive cards. Wait till you buy a game that runs like crap and upgrade then.

gameve.com currently has a geforcefx 5600 ultra 128MB for $126 and they are a very reputable reseller that I have bought from before.

NOTE: most newer cards (like the one I mentioned) are AGP 8x. There is a very good chance that your computer will only support AGP 4x and below. If that is the case, I'd say look for a geforce4 ti4400 or so. the ti 4600 is still a bit more than you are willing to pay.

Ok, I'm cool with that. Understand my reason for getting a Radeon 9700pro. It was all in the prices, should I buy Geforce4 TI4600 or a Radeon 9700pro Universal(x2,x4,x8) and both cost $200 each. HMMM?

The only problem with my graphix card(9700pro) is the original driver that came with it, but if you download the new updated driver, no problems. Besides The new GeforceFX cards take up an extra slot and sounds like a vaccum cleaner when running.

Anywho, What ever you buy DO NOT get the geforce4 mmx card. If its not a Gf4 TI4200 or up, you're better off keeping what you already have in the system.

Oh, and in the future, I MIGHT have limited hookups for wholesale prices for video cards. I have a friend that says he can get limited amounts --not enough for a ton of CPA members, but maybe enough for myself and a couple of lucky ebayers(to pay for my card)

Look like I'll purchase another geforce, I am happy with the one on my other comp, so I trust the next will be fine.
