today when i went on i had a problem i had a constant ping of 8500 ping i couldnt get rid of it. this was the highest amount of ping i have ever expierenced and i have dsl and this never even happened i never passed 150 ping ever but for some reason latley i have been expierence a very decreasing speed on the internet as well as a game play
aggie and sodium both gave me advices about rebooting my modem but i didnt work
i went on dos and they told me to type tracert and it said this please place any repsonse about how to fix it
this is what it said on dos
Useage: tracert [-d][-h maximum_hops] [-j host-list] [-w timeout] target_name
Options:
-d Do not resolve addresses to hostnames
-h maximum_hops Maximum number of hops to search for target.
-j host-list Loose source route along host-list.
-w timeout Wait timeout milliseconds for each reply.
????? could the problem be anything i downloaded recently ????

Has your Internet access also gotten slow? Or anything else strange, like your home page has changed or you get strange pop-ups or prompts? I got hijacked by CoolWebSearch and my connection got really slow. So has about 5 other people I know.

Oh, and to answer you tracert question, you have to enter the IP address to CPA. If you don't give it a destination, You get the help screen for tracert, telling you how to us it. Do this. Go to start. Run. Type in command. At the DOS prompt, Type in tracert 65.127.124.100 You will see something like:

I believe the address 65.127.124.100 is correct. Maybe you could get an admin to verify it for you.
Could you list what is happening? Things like:Is it a constant slowness or does it work fine and then stop and then work fine again?

Yes that is the right IP address. I traced it myself and it said something like TRIBES2 blablablabla... There are more programs that can trace way better than that too... Good luck!

alright thanks gorfal what you told me to do is correct and everything worked as you said thanks
but to answer your question during my game it would the gameplay would go smoothly then freezes.....then continues gameplay....then stops if switches out every minute or say this is the first weekend that i ever expierenced this

OK. Try these. Maybe one will help.
1. Have you changed any hardware on your computer or modem?
2. Have you changed any settings under control panel?
3. Has there been any bad electrical storms in your area?
4. Have you had any other problems with your computer?
5. Are the cables OK? (visually check them and unplug, then plug them back in). Have you made any changes to them lately?
6. Turn off power to your modem and computer for 15 minutes and turn them back on.
7. On your tracert, did you have any entries that had: * * * on them?
8. Try running some speed tests. Google search for speed test and find a free one. Run it several times and see what happens.
9. Contact you ISP. They can usually see, remotely, if your modem is OK.
Besides that, I can't be much help with out more info.

One more thing. The Internet has been slow because of all the traffic before Christmas. I ran a test on my computer last week and it was about 3x slower than usual at one point.

I had the exact same problem once when I installed win xp. Turns out it was my video driver. I upgraded it and the problem resolved.

you might have spyware. download spybot S&D, AND adaware, and run them both weekly. also run norton or w/e other antivirus program you have regularly (you can set norton up to run weekly.).
also get zonealarm. it could be that some spyware program is trying to access the internet every couple of seconds. you can limit what accesses the internet.

The astericks show there is a broken link or bad route somewhere between you and the destination. Actually, in this case, we really can't do much about that and he would not be able to get on at all. That just kind of slipped in there and doesn't realy apply here, but it would indicate that there is a severe problem if it did happen. Ignore that one.

The *** can also indicate a network where ICMP ping has been disabled to prevent worm traffic... Wreaks havoc on traceroutes

Sorry, I'm used to dealing with private networks.
Asterisks then nothing = Bad. (no connection)
Asterisks then more routes = OK. (someone hiding IP addresses)
Anyway, Have you fixed the problem yet? Your ping was as good as mine the other night when Duveen was there. ~120ms. 8-9 times a second. What was weird was I never heard a thing Duveen said. Maybe I have his text chat muted. I have a lot of people's text chat muted. LOL.
