I just posted this message on another forum in reply to someones message but figured it will probably be deleted since it addresses racism and they have a whole 'no politics' rule over there. Quick background: This message popped up in a thread about somebody stealing someones UPS package off of his doorstep. The discussion moved into people stealing food at fast food places while you are not guarding it. Here's my reply with a quote of his buried in the middle:

Sorry to do a bit of thread crapping and make the issue of racism surface here a little bit, but I just thought of this while making my lunch today and just HAD to bring it up.

Ok, so this is an anti racism movie. I, personally, don't even see the slightest hint of any amount of racism in that situation whatsoever. Somebody out there went and made a movie and claimed that this situation is racist. Why would he think this is racist? Because something bad happened to a black man. If this same situation had played out with two white people, it would be an example of a gross misunderstanding and bad judgement. If I were the woman in that situation, I think I'd be a whole lot more angry at the fact that somebody is eating my salad than the fact that the person eating my salad is a different color than me.
Once again, sorry to bring up an issue involving racism. I don't really want to start any sort of arguement. I just wanted to point out the absurdity I noticed in that particular situation.
Also, I would like to point out that this post really doesn't discuss racism. It discusses the lack of any sort of racism in a particular situation.

I think your opinion is perfectly correct.
I can see the point of the other person, but it is a weak, uninformed one. Unless we know what was going on in the head of the woman, there isn't really any way to judge.

That's the problem with our society. We're trying so hard to work over the residual guilt of racist blemishes on our past that we're overcompensating. Anything that seems a tad off-colour gets jumped on if it's directed towards a minority with whom we've got a bad history. Example: No caucasian person makes fun of Jewish people any more (at least publicly) do they? Normally, I'd say this would be a good thing, but it tends to amplify resentment and ethnic tensions. It causes misconceptions that certain minorities in North America get special treatment.
Krusty, I think you're right. That's clearly not racism at work. Whoever thought that the situation with the salad was racist was probably trying to make a name for his or herself in the film community as "the kind of person who makes, edgy, provocative, avant-garde films" or some such BS.

I hope that didn't come off discriminatory. Before I get flamed, let me just state that I'm not a racist. I'm about as liberal as they come. I'm pro women's rights, pro gay/lesbian rights, pro... "non-discrimination" (for lack of a better word), etc etc.

Screw them, My family never owned any slaves, in fact they were persecuted themselves and that's how they ended up in america. I don't owe them a damn thing, my family doesn't owe them a damn thing, and I really don't think anyone else does for that matter. If they think they're getting treated so bad over here, then they can just ship themselves back where they came from.

Heh, the comedian thing is my pet peeve.
I generally change the chennel when one comes on, because all they have are the black jokes.
The only decent routine based around black jokes I have seen is Chris Rock's "Black People vs Niggers".
On the other hand, I do not agree with your Caucasian statement Sodium. I think around here we make fun of Jews more than any other Ethnic group. Except for the Dutch, because we have a Dutch guy on the floor. He complained one day that too many people made fun of the Dutch. Having never heard a Dutch related comment, we proceeded to brutalize them. THat is slowly dying off.

I realize that sounds bad, but that's just how I feel.
I would have to say the worst thing about it all, is that local churches bring troubled african's over here to "save" them from the troubles there.
Well, lets face it, south dakota is 90% white, so the only black culture these guys get, is what they watch on tv. No picture this, 7' tall 150 pound somolian's dressed like rappers. It's funny as all hell.
Damn, must be one of my many can't spell days.. I can't stand that Dave Chappelle. I'd like to see a white comedian try half the crap he does. The news would be full of people calling for his head the day after.
