ohkay i have a question pertaining to Tribes2, whenever i play that or any game application that requires a cd. i get intense pop-ups but when i am on the internet or on any application such as word, paint,powerpoints i dont get any pop-ups.
i would celebrate if i get through the loading screen of tribes2 without any pop-ups these pop-ups cause a lot of UE's i dont know if it is a gigantic hidden virus. taht i have been trying for the past 2 months to catch or my computer is screwed up which is brand spankin new about 7 months old.
i bought this application called zero ad's it catch's alot of pop-ups but still gives me a hell-a-lot of UE's i bought all kinds of pop-up blockres dont work. today i am going to buy Norton Anti Virus 2004 if it doesnt work i wil be screaming my head off.
any suggestions, my computer wont reinstall windows its acting real gay. and HP charges 100 $$ to help me reinstall it. and $15$ per cd which is like 6 so its going to be a grand total of 90$ plus shipping handling like another 10 buck so i am looking at 100$ plus hp tech's which are as stupid as hell.

have you tried spybot ?

if not that is the first thing i would do.
you may have many hidden programs causing the pop ups
spybot will find them, or at least 99 % of them
the only one that actually does what it says
and its free

And If you want to spend $100, by XP upgrade that should fix it.
I just remembered Aggie or someone else talked about an XP service called messaging, its turned on automatically by default. That needs to be turned off or disable.

I found it...
Go to: Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Services Now scroll down to Messenger right click on it, chose properties, in the general tab look for STARTUP TYPE box and select Disable.
I hope this works.

Actually disabling messenger is harder than that. If you use Outlook you need to make it so your address book doesnt show. Or every time you load outlook messenger restarts.
If you do a search for how to disable messenger on the net it should walk you through it pretty easy.
Staples for your computer (all free and available at www.majorgeeks.com):
Regcleaner
Spybot Search and Destroy
Ad-Aware
ZoneAlarm (even the free version is nice)
Additionals:
Panicware's Pop-up stopper
hijackthis
Theres more good stuff out there but I find the above programs the best of the bunch for now.

What MOW is discribing sounds kinda strange. Pop up when you use the CD. Ussually pop ups happen when you connect to the internet or use the browser. I use spybot and spyhunter. Each will get things the other doesn't. Actually spyhunter finds a lot more than spybot. You can download it for free but it doesn't delete them automatically unless you buy it.

You can use regedit to get rid of things when you find them. You have to be carefull when deleting things from the register.
MOW you were talking about this problem 2 months ago. Is this a new problem or a problem that hasn't been fix for the last few months?

this is the same problem since 2-3 months ago. i have tried alll sorts of alternatives to get rid ot it. but my computer is working fantastic thanks to that spybot thing i downloaded. it turned out i had an hidden file on program files called chicken. i dont know what the heck that was i was going threw the add/remove programs files and i found it. there.
Tbok, all those things you listed up there i have them all and still didnt work.
Thanks all i played tribes2 for the first time last night without any UE's only to get owned by -=Bomber Boys=-

Wrong Messenger, This one is more of a network messenger, is not the same as windows Instant Message. Spammers found a way to pop-up advertisments through using Windows Utility.

I hate spammers, i dont see whats their purpose of bombarding emails and pop-ups to people yet they never buy their stuff. i wish you can just send it back to them and make it crash their computers or something. and their pretty damn sneaky.
