I'm off to Atlanta to finish my last class this weekend. I'll probably go into withdrawal not playing tribes. Good thing is after that no more school for a while. That means more free time to play tribes.

Ya school sucks the big donkey kong but it sure does help when you want a good job.
Good luck Erok and may your studies bring you closer to that you want.
And that is your thought of the day boys and girls.

lol you dont need college for a good job, contrary to popular belief. for SOME jobs, you need a degree, but there are tons or viable occupations that do not require such horrible things as college.

It really depends on your definition of 'good'. Having said that, it's easy to see how necessary a working class is to any society. Whether the jobs pay well or not, they need to be done. So there has to be people (a lot of them in fact) who never go through college, but instead do "unskilled" work for wages.

lol w/e. i know many people that never went to college and they are some of the richest people i know. i also know some that didnt go to college and are very poor. the same with the people who did go to college. it all has to do with what you do with what youre given. ive always hated the people who tell you that you cant go anywhere without college, and that youll be flipping burgers the rest of your life. this is crap. im 17 and have been taken on as an apprentice to build houses. i am going to learn every aspect of it and probably start my own business doing the same in a few years. college would not help me in this vocation, and it is what i really want to do. i dont need college, and i have already taken the appropriate steps toward my goal. in this age, a degree means quite a bit. i think this is wrong. to me, a degree means nothing. what matters is what you want to do and what youre good at, if you need a degree to pursue what you want, then do it. if you dont, then dont waste your time and money.

My friend gets a GPA that is at least 2 whole "values" lower than me, but he'll make more money than I ever will, because his dad owns a business. He'll take it over and make 32K a month. Excuse me while I go do some non-murder related activities... -Mike

My parents tell me getting a college degree is the most important thing in the world during my time. without a college degree. you might as well live in a box. or doing a McJob is what i think they call it now.
Arti, some people will be very luck that they can get away in life without having even a highschool degreee but thats really rare. having a degree enbales you to get more job oppurtunties. out there. what happens if you went out of bussiness building houses or people who build houses wages go down or there is a cut in it. what are you going to do without a college degreee. no good jobs will be available becuase some people wont have college degree.

not true. there are many other things i am skilled at, and i can learn them just as easily. i can always go to college if i want. but i dont. i dont have to and noone can make me. i think too many people go to college after high school just because thats what everyone else does. they arent ready. how many college students have undeclared majors? they have no idea what they want to do. unless you have a general idea of where you want to go, college will only waste your time and money. my sister did just that and even graduated with double high honors as an english major, and now she finds that she wants to be a chef. 4 years and tons of money for a completely useless degree. now shes struggling to pay off her college debts while learning to be a chef. i dunno, your parents may be right in some respects, but you are free to form your own thoughts and opinions, and dont be afraid if your opinions contradict theirs. you dont have to agree with me, i dont care. just dont tell me im going to be stuck flipping burgers and dont tell me to go to college. i wont take that crap. and btw, i will have a high school degree. i went to a private school my whole life preparing me for college, and now im not going, what a waste of money. oh well i didnt pay for it. my parents know i hate it and they know im going to do what i want. i have a very good job with a very promising future, so theyre happy. being the youngest of 4, im already more successful than my siblings. my brother is a standard college student, my sister has been to about 4 colleges for a total of 4 semesters and my other sister i have already mentioned. theyre all very smart and bright, but they either have not found or found too late what they wanted. i know what i want and am pursuing it early. i dunno i know a lot of people with completely useless degrees and some very successful people without them. it works both ways though. well, enough incessant and seemingly pointless rambling, im going to bed.

I think it's great that your doing what you want. I had no use for college. I was driving semi making decent money when I decided to go to school at 23.
Many people that go into a trade are way ahead of college grads until they are about 35 then the college grads start to catch up. Don't underestimate 17 years of making decent money and investing it wisely. Also you get a lot of good real word exerience and if you ever decide that college will help you achieve what you want you can always go then with the right attitude.
When I started college at 23. I was in a class with kids just out of highschool. 70 % of them droped out. I wanted to be there so I studied.
Now I'm 41 and can make 100,000 fairly easily. But you have to look at having 15 years of no income which = no investments. And also 1,500 a month student loan payments for the next 30 years. Also have to remember the large chunk of taxes taken out before student loan payments. To top it off your starting from -150,000 at 35. Make it hard to get loans. On top of that most people want to buy a house have cars etc. Somewhere you want to start saving for retirement and it's gets a lot easier if you start early.
I think Atriedis plan is as good as any.
