And I must say that I am not yet impressed. I cruised over to the ATI booth and found several laptops with Tribes:Vengence running and hung out there for 20 minutes or so. Here's my quick review of the game and the whole situation:
The computers they were running the games on were sub par for the game. They were Dell laptops but I could not see what type. All I saw were the letters XPS on them. Anyways, I couldn't have been getting more than 30 fps and that made the game unusually difficult to navigate in and get any good shots off.
Ok, onto the game...
The inventory selection has gone back to a Tribes 1-esque select your inventory when you are standing on the station technique. So when the game comes out, prepare to have tons of noobs hogging the station. I'm not sure if there are nice built in presets though. I didn't really have the time to go through everything. Inventory selection in general is not as intuitive as in Tribes 2. After about 5 mins of playing, I just opted to run around in spawn armor instead of try to figure out how to choose all of my weapons. Instead of picking the weapon from a pulldown menu, you click on a picture and whatever weapons you have get highlighted. In the time I had, I couldn't figure out how to deselect stuff so I turned out only being able to select 1 weapon other than spawn weapons. Of course, I opted to try otu the grappling hook.
The grappling hook is most definately interesting. I can see how it could prove to be a difficult to master weapon and I can see how it can have the potential to be a very powerful item to be carrying. But from my quick play with it, it just seems to act more like an anchor than a cool new weapon.
The spawn weapons are the spinfusor, a chaingun, and some sort of flak cannon / shotgun. Interesting stuff. The spinfusor seems to have plenty of speed and splash that we are used to.
It is most definately more difficult to track enemies in Tribes:Vengence than it is in Tribes or Tribes 2. The IFFs are smaller and it seems that they aren't always on a person when they are in front of you. I began to find it easier to just shoot at guys with red armor (I was on whatever blue team) than to track the IFFs when in close quarters.
Now for the big topic: general physics stuff.
For you tribes 1 vets out there, I have good news for you: there is most definately plenty of potential speed. Unfortunately, the speed seems to be designed rather strangely. At one point, I went down what is basically like a 4 meter downward incline. Now that's barely anything at all. You could probably hit the jump button and completely go over the slope. But when I approached this incline (at a low speed) while holding the jump button, my speed magically increased by like a factor of 10. Granted, I was moving slowly so the huge increase in speed didn't leave me moving insanely fast, but it was still too fast for such a tiny hill. From what I observed in the physics of the game, all you need is a little tiny slope and you can suddenly fly anywhere you please.
I did notice something bad for all you Bomber Boys out there: there ARE flight ceilings. In fact, they're ANYTHING ceilings. If you jet up too high, a border will appear and you can't go past it. I think this was an arena game though so it may be different in CTF.
Now for the topic of maps: I only played one map and it was SMALL. It was horribly small in Tribes standards. It was lacking in pretty rolling slopes as well. There were small hills, but nothing at all that would make you think you could make a nice ski route out of it. Then again, with these physics, you can make a ski route out of a 2 foot wheelchair ramp.
Overall, the graphics remind me of Planetside, the physics needs some work, and I could only hope that they have larger maps than the one I played. If they could overcome these things I noticed, this could be a very good addition to Tribes.

we could always look to the tribes community to make a T2 mod for T:V.

After watching the TW video, the things I saw that I didn't like were the gravity (Everything was floaty), and the disk looked a mite to slow. The Devs have mentioned that the IFFs are still buggy, so they will probably be improved upon. I am HOPING that all the ugly trails are placeholders. I was also disappointed that the invs worked a la T1 instead of the smooth system that was in T2.

I watched that video too. It made the grappling hook look pretty friggin awesome. I also like the way you reload the spinfusor by hand and toss the old cartridge when outta ammo. Nice attention to detail.
The physics really is the only thing that still needs reworking. From the demo, it looks like you have some sort of favorites settings. Any way they make it, I'll still grab a copy and have some fun with it. I just may wind up going back to T2 after a couple months of multiplayer.

Well, the guy who programs the physics was in mIRC last night, and from what he says, the game felt the way it did on purpose.
You mentioned that you could make a route out of a 2-foot wheel-chair ramp. Several other people who played from TW made a similar comment, and Experimental (The physics dev) responded to that by telling us that you weren't actually going very fast at all in those cases. It is designed so that new players can still have fun while going sub-50 kmph, (easy jetting, manueverability) but veteran players should be able to go multiple times the speeds that you were able to reach. More than 2 foot slopes will be required. In essence, the learning curve only starts at speeds above 50kmph, because below that you can hover around and manuever and never even really touch the ground. Above that speed, that physics should start to resemble T1 or T2 classic physics.
Experimental also said that the gravity was extremely high already. Since people thought that it seemed sorta-floaty, it was "concluded" that maybe the jet-packs were too powerful. This may or may not be changed.
Lastly, he said that even KP (the Dev, of IE fame) thought that the disc speeds were too slow. Those will probably be increased.

I didn't even see a playable version of Doom3 for the PC. Apparently they had it for XBOX though. Stupid me missed that though and spent too much time playing mortal kombat on the xbox. I didn't play half life 2, but I think there was a playable version floating around there somewhere. Didn't see anything about release dates.
By the way, anyone want some free playstation2 games? I've got soccer and (I think) baseball. Sony was giving them away for free.
EDIT: btw, I got in by scanning someone elses ID, photoshopping it a bit, and then printing my own ID. Go me!

I think we as a mousemod community could make a t2 mod for t:V. We could do a total conversion, importing the shapes from t2, re-working the physics, etc.

Too bad. There's already cheats in T:V.
Well, sorta. I went into the menu to invert my y axis and there was a button for developer debugging. I didn't click it to see what I can do with it though.
Lets hope they remember to remove that button before the release.

Also, I do have a girlfriend. Her name is Palmela Handerson.
And I think this is the last post that I needed to reply to to get the last word in. Sooo....

Oh yeah, read the sig.
