I've seen CPA clanners sniping, cloaking... True, a lot of them use heavy mortar, but come on, you can't call someone in heavy a mortar *****, that's like calling someone a disc *****, or a laser rifle *****, or a missile launcher ***** (*cough* pisn got like 30 missile kills on me in U-R the other day *cough*). 
Plus, a lot of the cpa regs have been playing for so long, they've gone through certain phases of playing. Some of them went through the iKo phase aka the LoN phase (assault, shield, plas, disc, chain, nade), then they tried sniping, cloaking, the -={BB}=- phase, the arena-which-na85-hates phase, whatever. Perhaps a lot of the oldies have simply gone through different specialties until they came to the conclusion of "Hey, let's get in heavy and strap on a shield. Then we'll pwn the n00bs"
PS. Atriedis actually IS a disc ***** 
<edit> PPS. Mouse, I remember you used to get like 900 points every single game wearing heavy with an ammo pack. You oughta bring that trend back  </edit>

I think that CPA is perfect in my eye. It always has been. I know it's not like it used to be, like when I was in 3D, but it has always been fun no matter who's playin'. Take out the shielders, and what's the point of defending? I mean, defending against caping is pretty easy compared to the CPA rapers, which adds whole 'notha dimension to the game. Without defending, the game is lost as soon as the game starts. I've seen some kickass D's even on CPA, and the regs had a hard times getting passed them. This is a great skill on CPA, without it, the teams become flopped and the game sucks for the losing team. I just realized this in my past FragFest, how good a team gets when they actually HAVE defenders.
Now the cloakers. What fun would CPA be without them? Ya, I know, you guys think cloakers are gay, but look into it. I'm sure all those Classic superd00ds think cloaking is a bad addition to the game, and is rarely used, but in MM, it actually can win a game. Yea, all the n00bs tend to like the cloak, but with peeps like Krusty, it can help the team more than you realize. I've seen capers go for flags, try multiple times, and can't cap it. But these cloakers can make some hard caps only because they cloak.
Then the snipers. Everyone hates them. They can't make a spectacular shot without someone accusing them of cheating. I agree, it is annoying when you're flying to get into your base, and you get shot in MA and die without warning. BUT IT'S FUN TO KILL THEM! They are (usually) great duelers, and can put up a tough fight, but they improve your skills. They are also the main capers on the team, with their engy packs and all. But they are also a key factor in the game.
Without these elements of play, CPA would just be like any other server.

I am a notorious sniper/cloaker :D
Thing I f33r the most is a heavy shielder. one zap from my lance does not kill them, but it alerts them to my presence, toss a conc grenade, and they turn around and toss a big green one :P

I dislike people who spam or cuss.
I dislike blowing up my own inventory with an accidently shot mortar.
I dislike getting pinged to death by a spawner I cant even see.
I dislike cloakers because I hear them, and I know they are near me, and I follow them, but still cant freakin' kill them.
I dislike snipers because they are a waste of my time.
I dislike rapers who only rape and don't know any other aspect of the game.
I dislike UE'ing
I dislike when there are two shirkes on my bombers butt.
I dislike that no one respects me.

I feel ya man, and i agree with all of what you said. Except the cloaker part. I CAN kill them.
