I need some freakin video card that will RUN tribes 2 and NOT crash it.. heh... I will spend up to $75... not much cause i just paid 1 grand for this piece of crap computer.... i have a crappy like 32 mb video card rite now... some standard piece of crap that don't work, it runs @ 14mb... Just wonderin what you would buy... if you need more details just ask..

I think the comp is a AMD XP 2.66ghz proccessor with a 32Mb 3D Video Accelerator Video Card

I'm such an idiot when it comes to computers...

I got a geforce4 ti4200 64MB with a custom gpu heatsink and custom ramsinks that I was planning on selling for about $65. It will overclock to be close to the speed of a geforce4 ti4600.

I also have a geforce3 64MB that overclocks to close to the speed of a geforce3 ti500 that I was planning on selling for about $50. It has a custom gpu heatsink on it as well. Both will run tribes at 1024x768, decent detail levels, and decent framerates.

As for new products in your price range, as long as you don't need hardware directx 9 stuff, the geforce4 ti4200 would probably be your best bet. It won't be able to run half life 2 and doom3 as well as a radeon 9800pro, but all of the games currently out there run fine.

se might as well stand for stipped-down edition

ive got a sapphire 9600 128mb, runs great, only $96
can get a 64mb fx5200 for $71 at newegg.
link

also this is somthing you might want to look over
comparison chart for ut2k3 benchmarks, used this to pick out my 9600 (look at where a 9600 SE is compared to a 9600 and even a 9600 pro, huge difference)

and you can try pricewatch.com

but yeah a free 9200's probably gonna be better than what you have now

Free is always good. BUT that list of UT2k3 framerates appears to not even have the 9200se listed. The 9200se may not perform as well as you need it to considering the regular 9200 only got 30fps in ut2k3 and the 9600se was even below that.

I dunno if the 9200se has hardware dx9 stuff on it, but are you sure you need the hardware dx9 stuff? Any one of those dx8 video cards can emulate the extra dx9 hardware features with software. Unless you're planning on playing half life 2 and doom3 with it, getting a cheapo dx9 card would be pretty useless. Then again, with a cheapo dx9 card, you wouldn't be able to play half life 2 or doom3 anyways.

My roommate (a non-gamer) has a 9200se in his computer. If I see him any time soon, I'll ask him if he can run 3dmark2k1 and lemme know what kind of score he got with it.

EDIT: the 9200 is also only dx8 according to the tomshardware reviews. If you want dx9, you'll need to get at least a geforce FX5200 or a radeon 9500. And a little FYI, the fx5200 is like the 9200se of nvidia cards.

heh...tom's hardware loves nvidia.....don trust them...better is www.anandtech.com

umm....you could probably get an 8500LE...better than 9200SE.

make sure that ou have an agp port though...cause otherwise you will have to go for the pci cards (on $75 cards though this won't matter). where did you buy this computer for 1 grand? i built mine for one grand with 9800pro, 2.8ghz p4, and 512mb of mushkin level 2 ram.....so if it doesn't have a good card, you probably got ripped off....

note:you got ripped off....turn it back in....NOW!

they probably spent around 400 building that computer... and sold it to you for 1000.

I would kill to have a good system... Running a 1.0GHz processor with a geforce three card. I have most things turned almost all the way down in a 800x600... Heh, mine's so ghetto...

geforce3 was the ultimate video card at the time tribes was released. And I know this for a fact because I built a computer just a couple months before Tribes came out. I've been running Tribes2 basically since it came out on a 1.4Ghz processor and geforce3 at 1024*768 with medium settings with no problems.

I've been running T2 on the Tbird 1GHz, GeFOrce2 MX 200 since day one, and it looks/plays better than fine.

Well, it's good to know I'm not alone. Although, my system is probably capable of handling more, but I'm not exactly a computer genius so the rest of my hardware, drivers, etc. are probably not up to par, so that would explain the problems I have. Ohwell
